Fresh off opening a new Matthews shop, Moxie Mercantile is expanding again. This time it’ll be right around the corner from their flagship store in Plaza Midwood.

The new shop, called Betty by Moxie, will specialize in apparel, accessories and kids’ products. Owner Michelle Castelloe tells Axios it will open Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Details: The 2,500 square-foot store is at 1219 Thomas Avenue, in the space next to House of Africa that used to house a furniture store called City Supply.

• This’ll be the fourth Moxie boutique. The original one on Commonwealth, with gifts and artisan-made goods, opened in 2015. Castelloe opened a location in Davidson in 2018 and in Matthews last spring.

Why it matters: Castelloe sees her new shop as a way to preserve the local flavor of Plaza Midwood. “It’s our way of keeping control over our changing neighborhood,” Castelloe tells Axios.
