What goes on inside of Uptown’s skyscrapers, anyway? Your guide to Charlotte’s 10 tallest buildings.

The Charlotte skyline is one of the city’s greatest, ever-evolving gems. Case in point: the Legacy Union building is projected to be complete later this year, changing the landscape once again. But how well do you actually know its individual buildings? Here, a look inside each Charlotte’s most recognizable structures:

(1) Bank of America Corporate Center

Height: 871 feet
Completed: 1992
Address: 100 N. Tryon Street
What it is: Charlotte’s tallest building (also the tallest skyscraper in North Carolina) is, predictably, home to Bank of America’s headquarters and other offices.

(2) Duke Energy Center

Height: 786 feet
Completed: 2009
Address: 550 S. Tryon Street
What it is: Duke Energy Center is comprised of offices and retail space and its main attraction: access to the Levine Center for the Arts. (There’s both parking and pedestrian access at the Center.)

(3) Hearst Tower

Height: 659 feet
Completed: 2002
Address: 214 N. Tryon Street
What it is: The 42-floor Hearst Tower is made up of two parts: the tower and the base. The tower’s tenants are mostly corporate (including offices for the building’s namesake, Hearst Communications), while the base is home to several restaurants (Showmars, Fuel Pizza, Piccadilly coffee shop and more) that line the sidewalk and the building’s trading floor —one of the largest in the world.

(4) Legacy Union

Height: 632 feet
Projected completion: Early this year
Address: 620 S. Tryon Street
What it is: At the former site of the Observer, the city’s newest building will have plenty of office space for Bank of America and Deloitte, along with retail outlets and restaurants (the specifics have yet to be announced), and potentially some hotel and residential space.

(5) One Wells Fargo Center

Height: 588 feet
Completed: 1988
Address: 301 S. College Street
What it is: Given the eponymous name, it should come as no surprise that Wells Fargo occupies the majority of the space in this building, with several other business offices sprinkled throughout.

(6) The Vue

Height: 560 feet
Completed: 2010
Address: 215 N. Pine Street
What it is: Inside Charlotte’s tallest residential tower, residents can enjoy poolside cabanas, a billiards lounge, a demonstration kitchen, a rooftop bar and unparalleled views of the city.

(7) Bank of America Plaza

Height: 503 feet
Completed: 1974
Address: 101 S. Tryon Street
What it is: There’s a 74,000-square-foot retail mall, offices, a Charlotte Athletic Club gym, cafés including Starbucks and Devon & Blakely, outdoor seating and access to the LYNX’s Charlotte Transit Center Station at this plaza.

(8) 1 Bank of America Center

Height: 484 feet
Completed: 2010
Address: 150 N. College Street
What it is: The 1 Bank of America Center is particularly environmentally friendly: It’s rated LEED Gold and features a bright atrium garden for visitors and various other sky gardens (lush with olive trees and other vegetation) for employee use.

(9) 300 South Tryon

Height: 463 feet
Completed: 2017
Address: 300 S. Tryon Street
What it is: This high-rise, which opened just last year, is home to Barings offices, a variety of law firms and other business offices, French brasserie La Belle Helene and more. (You’ve probably noticed this building when it’s showing off its LED lights, most noticeably at a Panthers game.) It’s also connected to the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel.
