Boys from the ages of 2 to 8 are more likely to have a mental or behavioral disorder than girls, according to the CDC. Yet social pressure on men of all ages prevents adolescents from asking for the help they need in their struggle against mental health issues.
In 2022, Patrick Balsley, owner of Sana Counseling and certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, founded Sana House as a recovery residence for men 18 and older who face mental health challenges and substance abuse. But Balsley has also seen a recent uptick in mental health struggles in adolescents under the age of 18.
The Katie Blessing Center is an advanced pediatric behavioral center seeking to create an environment for adolescents to receive necessary mental health treatment and to feel comfortable expressing the need for help without social stigma. Two benefits of having a Katie Blessing Center include eliminating the social stigma around boys seeking help for mental health issues and offering unique healthcare services. Some of these services include:
- Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC)
- 72 beds across residential, short term and other neighborhoods
- Acute Inpatient and Facility Based Crisis Units (FBC)
- Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF)
- Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
