Charlotte-based StarMed Healthcare established a no-cost mobile clinic in Banner Elk through its disaster response team, North Rapid Response.
A team of physicians, nurses, EMTs, and trained medical professionals set up trailers to provide primary and urgent care needs in Grandfather RV at 125 Profile View Road in Banner Elk.
Services include injury care, vaccinations, physical exams, lab testing, prescription refills, telemedicine and more.
StarMed CEO and North Rapid Response Founder Dr. Michael Estramonte said there is a need for continued, stable care while the region is rebuilding.
“We recognize that a month after the devastation that occurred, a lot of the immediate first responders that came in from a medical perspective, they were either getting fatigued, worn out, or they had to go back to what they were doing before,” he said, “To ourselves, this is a good time to make sure during that gap, while some were pulling out, let’s get up there and see what we can do.”
Estramonte said patients were waiting as soon as the equipment was up and running.
