It’s not surprising that Corri Smith, owner and founder of Black Wednesday, also lives in a black house with black furniture and a closet of black clothes.
Smith’s creative PR firm Black Wednesday has clients like bardo, Chopt, and Protagonist. She’s been in Charlotte for 12 years, and has rented in Druid Hills for the last six.

Background: Less than four miles from Uptown and a mile-and-a-half from Camp North End, Smith had been looking to buy in Druid Hills for years before she bought a tear-down in October 2019 and had a semi-custom home built. She officially moved in February 2020, right before the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s a challenging time being a first-time homeowner, and a small business owner. “I just hope I can keep paying my mortgage,” Smith says.

The house: The home was built and designed by Blake and Lara Bucci of Customcraft, a new homebuilder in Charlotte. At 1,440 square feet, it’s two stories with three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths. The third bedroom, which is downstairs, is Smith’s office and yoga studio (a necessity these days). In total, the house cost around $250,000.
