A craft coffee and retail shop is opening in uptown Charlotte Aug. 11.
Subscreto – Latin for “in secret” – is at 325 E. 9th St., near First Ward Park. Owned by local creatives Corri Smith and Caleb Clark, the cafe offers “a special place for the offbeat, eccentric, thinkers and doers,” according to a statement from Subsecreto this week.
The shop, which will also sell accessories and books, opens at 9 a.m. Aug. 11, and the first 13 people at the door will receive a “Subscreto Society” membership pin.
The shop isn’t members-only though, Smith says. Anyone can buy a $13 pin and become a member for a 10 percent discount on coffees
Clark, the designer who founded the brand Enemy to Fashion, and Smith, who owns the boutique marketing firm Black Wednesday, have also created a headquarters for their respective teams at Subscreto.
The shop’s regular hours will be Wednesday and Thursday 7 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
“This well-located coffee shop across from UNC-Charlotte’s Center City Campus will be a welcome addition to that block and First Ward’s emerging personality,” said Daniel Levine, who owns the Subscreto building.
