Charlotte is adding a touch of mint and lime to this afternoon with National Mojito Day.

Patricio Wood, manager at El Puro, joined us in the kitchen to share some history about the mojito and how to make your own.

El Puro is a Cuban restaurant inspired by the historical glamor and cuisine of 1950s pre-revolutionary Cuba.

The mojito was originally made in Havana around 500 years ago when locals created a medicinal drink from mint sugar cane syrup and lime. Years later, English pirates added rum to the beverage, creating the versatile cocktail known as the mojito. And celebrities like Ernest Hemingway made this drink famous globally.

Watch the segment above for a demo on how to make your own.
