A nonprofit focused on finding affordable housing for at-risk residents is partnering with other local organizations to achieve its mission.

Housing Collaborative, which offers a range of services across Mecklenburg County, has worked for years with affordable housing organizations. Most recently, Housing Collaborative began partnering with A Home For All, an initiative led and managed by United Way of Greater Charlotte.

Tara Peele, president and CEO of Housing Collaborative, said the partnership focuses on increasing affordable housing through a large-scale recruitment of private and market-rate property owners.

“We’re not creating new housing but identifying what’s already out there and engaging with providers to make it available to these households in need,” Peele said. “Our charge is to show them that filling any vacancies with program-connected households can meet their business needs and help the community. It just requires flexibility on both sides of the partnership.”

Housing Collaborative was founded in 1999 as Socialserve and rebranded in 2022. As Socialserve, the organization created housing-search websites. Socialserve grew to reach 36 states with online and call-center assistance providing lists of housing resources…
