Chopt Creative Salad Co., a fast chain restaurant that allows customers to build and customize their own salads, is eyeing a new location for Ansley Mall around the Piedmont Heights neighborhood, according to a permit application filed Thursday with the City of Atlanta.
It would be their third location in the Atlanta metropolitan area, following its first location in Toco Hills and its second in Buckhead’s Tuxedo Festival that will open Nov. 14.
Chopt’s first two locations will feature an Atlanta-inspired salad, “Cobb County Cobb,” from Nov. 14 to Dec. 16. The salad features ingredients from local brands including panko fried chicken, pickled cabbage “Chow Chow” from Doux South, homemade croutons from The General Muir, Hotlanta Hot Sauce and Banner Butter buttermilk.
Chopt is one of the newer tenants to join Toco Hills Shopping Center, which developer Edens acquired in late 2015 and is now redeveloping.
Chopt will replace Moe’s Southwest Grill in Ansley Mall, at 1544 Piedmont Avenue, according to the plans. It will cost an estimated $450,000 to convert the 2,399-square-foot Mexican eatery into a salad restaurant.
Started in 2001, Chopt’s offers an sizable menu of core salads, seasonal rotating “destination” salads and the option to build salads from scratch, in addition to soups and grain bowls. Chopt started in New York, but now has locations in Georgia, Connecticut, New Jersey, Tennessee, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. Chopt sources locally at certain restaurants, including its location in Toco Hills.
