CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new pilot program – Wellness Without Walls – is bringing mental health care directly to people experiencing homelessness in Mecklenburg County.

The initiative is powered by the United Way of Greater Charlotte and designed to break down long-standing barriers to treatment for some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.

“A lot of the folks will be boots on the ground,” said Kathryn Firmin-Sellers, the CEO of United Way of Greater Charlotte. “No single sector can address the problem by themselves. It can’t just be law enforcement, although they have a role. It can’t just be the healthcare sector, although they have a role. It takes everyone coming together.”
