Charlotte activity picks for this week: Sept. 17-23

Here’s what’s going on this week (we’ll keep adding to the list):

Charlotte PARK(ing) Day

From 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, temporary parks will pop up around town as  Charlotte Center City Partners, the American Society of Landscape Architects-Charlotte Chapter and Urban Design Partners turn 20 parking spaces into unique public parks. Find them here: South End (on Camden Road between Park and Kingston avenues), NoDa (on North Davidson Street between 34th and 35th streets), Plaza Midwood (on Pecan Avenue between Central and Commonwealth avenues).

Laugh at Lenny

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. is hosting its second comedy show this Friday, Sept. 21, from 8-9:30 p.m. Comedians include Sam Mazany, Jesse Jones, MiMi Benfield – Gay Of Sunshine, and host Zach Boylston.

Bonterra Wine Tasting

Plan to stop by Bonterra Dining & Wine Room on Friday, Sept. 21 for theirPop Up Wine Tasting, with 11 sips for $11. 5-7 p.m. 1829 Cleveland Ave.

Perspective

Caroline Calouche & Co. presents “Perspective,” this weekend, featuring aerial dancers performing on the large walls that straddle the main staircase of the Mint Museum Uptown (500 S. Tryon St.). CC&Co.’s performances are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 21 on the hour between 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 22 on the hour between 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Festival in the Park

The 54th annual Festival In The Park at Freedom Park (1409 East Blvd.) will roll out the works of artisans and craftsmen (think jewelry, paintings, woodwork and more) around the lake. The festival extends from Friday, Sept. 21-Sunday, Sept. 23.

City Barbeque’s 1st Birthday Party

Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, City Barbeque is giving away 200 free pork sandwiches (one per person) until they run out. Also enjoy family-friendly activities throughout the day and a drawing for free BBQ for a year. 5425 Hodges Circle, Huntersville.

Dilworth Home Tour

Due to the effects of Hurricane Florence, the 2018 Dilworth Home Tour was rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22. We plan to check out these 13 unusual features to find along this year’s tour route.

Flow Fest 

5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.

This festival at the U.S. National Whitewater Center is free and open to the public on Saturday, Sept. 22, with certain special events like wine sampling and Thai massage subject to registration fees. Expect 25+ different yoga classes from kids’ yoga to aerial yoga, 15+ wellness/workshops like essential oils and hula hooping, live music, kombucha and wine sampling, a climbing competition and a 5K and half marathon trail race.
