This restaurant will bring a little international flavor to uptown Charlotte.

La Belle Helene is targeting mid-summer for a soft opening at 300 South Tryon.

That roughly 7,000-square-foot upscale French brasserie will deliver a touch of France through its menu and overall vibe, says Brian Poplin, president and chief executive of Elior North America.

“My goal when you walk in is that you’re transported into the heart of a brasserie in Paris,” he says.

Elior is headquartered in the Tryon Street building. It also is parent to Starr Catering Group, which will operate La Belle Helene. (Starr also operates Parliament Coffee in the same building.)

Elior tapped Ducasse Conseil — consulting arm of Ducasse Paris — to design La Bell Helene’s floor plan, menu and create its overall look and feel.

“I wanted a modern take on a traditional French brasserie,” he adds.

That 166-seat restaurant looks to create an authentic and approachable, yet unique experience, Poplin says. The goal is to create an experience that’s fit for families as well as business clientele with four private dining spaces.

“My personal goal is that everybody in the restaurant feels like it’s their restaurant,” Poplin says.

Expect a menu that delivers familiar food with a French twist. For example, think rotisserie chicken prepared in-house, simple steak and frites, salads and signature desserts, says Poplin.

High-quality ingredients will be at the heart of every dish.

The design incorporates touches of pewter, antique wood and leather. Poplin notes the bar will be a focal point, conjuring up the feel of a French brasserie.

The restaurant will have more than 80 employees.

Those interested in positions can apply between 2 and 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at Parliament Coffee.
