Sure, you’ve probably been bowling before. But keg bowling?
As a preview to its hugely popular Beer Camp festival later in June up the mountain in Mills River, N.C., Sierra Nevada representatives are holding three separate keg bowling events across Charlotte, beginning today at Camp North End.
Keg bowling is as it sounds: instead of balls and pins, you’re using kegs (empty ones of course) throughout the entire game. Sierra Nevada representatives will be on hand to teach the brewery’s twist on the sport.
Of course, there will be plenty of Sierra Nevada beer as part of this as well. As part of Friday’s event at The Boileryard at Camp North End (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.), NoDa Company Store will have several of the brewery’s beer on tap, with some proceeds donated to Hearts Beat as One Foundation. And when you sign up to play keg bowling, you’ll be entered to win two tickets to the Beer Camp festival.
The other local keg bowling events will take place June 6 at VBGB and June 9 at Pizza Peel’s Plaza Midwood location. Both will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and all three are for ages 21 and up.
Beer Camp is returning to the Mills River brewery after Sierra Nevada previously did a nationwide tour the past couple years. It’s billed as an “adult” day camp, and rightfully so. The brewery hosts a number of games at the festival, including human foosball, an obstacle course and keg bowling. There’s also a silent disco and live music headlined by Zach Deputy. Sierra Nevada will have a full taplist and cans, along with six special employee-collaboration beers brewed specifically for the June 16 event. Tickets are $25 plus tax.
