UPTOWN RESTAURANT Coaltrane’s, from the owners of Libretto’s Pizzeria and Flight, will open its second location in Plaza Midwood on Thursday, October 26.
The original Coaltrane’s, located in the Epicentre, is known for its rotisserie chicken. The chicken, sourced from Coleman Farms in Dillon, South Carolina, is horomone- and antibiotic-free. The menu serves healthy options for a quick lunch or dinner in a fast-casual environment, with vegetarian and vegan options. The new location replaces beloved breakfast restaurant John’s Country Kitchen at 1518 Central Avenue, across the street from Workman’s Friend on Plaza Midwood’s main stretch.
The new interior gives the space a much-needed facelift—design touches include rustic and reclaimed woods and metals—without losing the building’s architectural touches. A mural on the side of the building pays homage to neighborhood spots such as The Diamond, Thirsty Beaver, and Peculiar Rabbit. An upper level overlooks the dining room, while a patio space fit for an afternoon beer has a view of Thomas Street.
Open until 11 p.m. on weeknights and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, the restaurant will be a welcome alternative for late-night dining.
A grand opening event is scheduled for November 4, and will include a “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” contest, giving the first 50 people in line a free chicken dinner a month for a year, and party in the next door parking lot with beer and giveaways.
