This secret society is for everyone.
Subsecreto — Latin for “in secret”— opens its doors at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Owners Caleb Clark and Corri Smith say that venture will serve up craft coffee and “curiosity.”
It aims to be a gathering spot for the offbeat, eccentric, thinkers and doers, Smith says.
“Charlotte doesn’t have anything like this. It’s a gathering place, but also a unique installation where art and creativity are welcomed and celebrated,” she says.
Subsecreto is located at 325 E. Ninth St., near First Ward Park.
Smith notes people are quick to point out Charlotte’s shortcomings; Subsecreto instead looks to fill those needs by creating a unique environment.
“It’s up to the contributors of this city to bring it up to big-city standards,” she says.
Smith is owner of Black Wednesday, a Charlotte-based marketing, social media and public relations firm. Clark is owner of Enemy to Fashion.
Both brands will be headquartered at that space.
The retail component will offer an eclectic mix of baubles, oddities, accessories and books handpicked by the shop’s owners. Guests also can enjoy craft coffees designed by local coffee expert Lindsey Pitman, also known for brews at Trade & Lore and Hyde Brewing.
Subsecreto customers who want to join the Subsecreto Society can purchase a pin for $13 — free for the first 13 guests on opening day.
Membership benefits include a 10% discount on coffee purchases when wearing the pin.
“It’s also the opportunity to be a part of something new and different in Charlotte,” Smith says.
Regular hours will be Wednesday and Thursday from 7a.m. until 3 p.m. It will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
