On Central Avenue in east Charlotte, the Katie Blessing Center has hit a major checkpoint. Crews have now sealed up the exterior and wrapped drywall work on the new pediatric behavioral-health campus, a sign that phase one is moving out of the mud and into the fine-tuning stage. Organizers bill the project as North Carolina’s largest pediatric behavioral-health hospital, and it is still expected to welcome its first patients in early 2027. The goal is straightforward and long overdue, keeping children and teenagers close to home for crisis and inpatient care instead of sending families on exhausting, out-of-state treatment treks.
