#GivingTuesdayCLT inspires community to give back

November 22, 2018

CHARLOTTE – #GivingTuesdayCLT, Charlotte’s annual celebration of the global #GivingTuesday movement, began Nov. 20.

Presented for the third consecutive year by Wells Fargo, #GivingTuesdayCLT encourages the Charlotte community to be part of the global movement by supporting local nonprofits through Nov. 27.

Organized annually by SHARE Charlotte, #GivingTuesdayCLT kicks off the giving season, bringing together hundreds of local nonprofits as well as businesses, individuals and community organizations to collectively rally our community to give. Since 2014, #GivingTuesdayCLT has influenced nearly $20 million in gifts to Charlotte nonprofits and inspired more than 11,000 new donors. In 2016, #GivingTuesdayCLT was the largest #GivingTuesday celebration in the world.

“We are thrilled to continue our support of #GivingTuesdayCLT and the great work SHARE Charlotte is doing for our local community,” said Kendall Alley, region bank president for Wells Fargo. “Our goal is to help build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life for everyone and make a positive difference. Wells Fargo and SHARE Charlotte are ALL-IN on Charlotte.”

This year, #GivingTuesdayCLT hopes to inspire 1,076,837 acts of good – one act for every estimated resident of Mecklenburg County.

In previous years, #GivingTuesdayCLT’s goal has been primarily financial, but shifting the focus to acts of good reminds our community that everyone has something to give.

An act of good in service to a nonprofit can include giving time, sharing social capital or influence, purchasing a much needed tangible item, providing an in-kind service, giving blood, donating money or simply following a cause or hashtag on social media to help share a message of good.

“It has been incredible to see how this now global #GivingTuesday movement has impacted the world, and Charlotte especially!” said Amy Jacobs, executive director of SHARE Charlotte.

“Hundreds of millions of dollars have been given on #GivingTuesday globally, but what’s most inspiring is seeing communities like ours come together to support nonprofits in other ways, like donating tangible goods, volunteer time and in-kind services. Our nonprofit community works tirelessly everyday to make Charlotte a better place to work and live, and it’s SHARE Charlotte’s privilege to be their megaphone for good!”
