Fast-casual salad shop ready for uptown debut

Chopt has four locations in the Charlotte market. It is seeking additional sites.

This fast-casual salad concept continues to expand its Charlotte footprint.

Chopt Creative Salad Co.’s uptown location debuts Wednesday with a benefit event supporting Friendship Trays. That local nonprofit delivers healthy meals to elderly and food-insecure community members.

Customers who make a donation to that organization will receive a free salad. Hours are from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Regular business starts on Thursday, with hours from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“The Charlotte community has been good to us, and has taught us a lot. Over the past four years we have received numerous requests to open in the uptown area and we are glad to listen and continuously work to make our customers happy,” says Colin McCabe, Chopt co-founder.

Chopt occupies 3,195 square feet in the historic Johnston Building. Its address is 212 S. Tryon St.

The restaurant has built a following for its globally inspired salads and bowls. There’s the tried-and-true combinations such as the Mexican Caesar or Classic Cobb salads as well as warm bowls such as the Mediterranean or Korean BBQ. Customers also can craft their own salad creation, picking from a variety of salad greens, cheeses and toppings. Chopt offers 18 scratch-made dressings

The brand debuts new selections inspired by different regions every 60 days as part of its Destination Menu. The current option explores the flavors of Mexico.

The restaurant also will feature the Chopt Jr. kids’ menu.

Uptown Charlotte customers can order online via Chopt’s website or the Chopt app for faster pick up. There’s also an option for group orders and catering.

“We’re committed to the delivery of quality with a sense of urgency, and use of tech to make sure that our customers’ lunch hour is the best — and tastiest — part of the day,” McCabe says.

The uptown location marks Chopt’s fourth in the Queen City since 2015. That includes restaurants at Park Road Shopping Center as well as at the Blakeney and Arboretum shopping complexes.

McCabe told the Charlotte Business Journal earlier this year the brand could double its footprint in the Charlotte market. He’s been considering possible sites in South End, Concord, Mooresville and Huntersville.
