Beer (and cider) in Charlotte is GOOD. It looks good. It tastes good. And most importantly, it does good.

Charlotte’s brewery scene has been philanthropic since day one, with breweries hosting events for local charities and offering drink-and-donate promotions throughout each month. If you’re going to enjoy a cold one, it’s nice when it means something, too.

Tuesday night (Nov. 14), The Unknown Brewing Co. is hosting the second annual #GivingTuesdayCLT Kickoff Party: A Celebration of Local GOODs. Unknown is opening up its space and allowing other breweries to come in for a beer tasting, and several local vendors will be there as well to kick off your holiday shopping. A $10 donation will get you a sampling cup, which you can refill to your heart’s content. Really. Plus, Unknown’s taproom will be open.

So, let’s talk about the beer …

Unknown Brewing Co. – PhilALEthropy

In addition to hosting, Unknown Brewing will be sampling PhilALEthropy, an IPA.

“This #GivingTuesdayCLT Kickoff Party means a lot to us,” said Lisa Shell, Chaos Coordinator for Unknown. “We decide to host it every year because we believe it’s imperative to give back to the community and help build that relationship between our breweries and the individuals that call this place home. Last year Charlotte had the largest #GivingTuesday campaign in history and we want to play our part in making sure that happens again.”

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. – Benefactor Brown Ale

Lenny Boy returns to the #GivingTuesdayCLT Kickoff Party with its Benefactor Brown, a hazelnut brown ale and kombucha brew that is sure to warm you up and put you in the giving spirit.

“Lenny Boy Brewing is passionate about supporting the local community,” said Townes Mozer, owner of Lenny Boy. “From hosting dozens of fundraisers each year to cleaning up rivers, we support community efforts to continue growing and improving the Queen City. #GivingTuesdayCLT is a great way to spread the word about all of the local charities that we can help fund or volunteer for. We’re thrilled to be a part of this event!”

Wooden Robot Brewery – Generously Hopped IPA Series No. 7: #GivingTuesdayCLT

Wooden Robot is bringing the latest iteration in its Generously Hopped IPA Series.

“We are participating in #GivingTuesdayCLT because we strive to continuously combine our passion for innovation and working to help improve our community,” said Wooden Robot’s Kristen Merkl. “Each batch of our Generously Hopped IPA Series allows us the freedom of experimentation while benefitting a local nonprofit. We are so happy to have the opportunity to partner with #GivingTuesdayCLT to focus on the act of giving back this time of the year.”

Free Range Brewing – We Knead Each Other

Free Range Brewing will sampling We Knead Each Other, a tart and citrusy, bright IPA with aromatics of fresh sourdough bread brewed in collaboration with their friends at Duke’s Bread.

“Free Range Brewing believes it is important to foster creativity while building a strong community foundation,” said Free Range’s Brittany Alexander. “Whether it’s sourcing an ingredient, featuring an artist, supporting a cause or doing a full-on beer collaboration, it’s important to foster connections within the community. We believe that by participating in #GivingTuesdayCLT, we can do just that.”

Free Range will also be sampling its Carolina Cream Ale.

Legion Brewing – Mystery Beer

Legion Brewing sources ingredients from nearby farmers and businesses and continuously supports local nonprofits within the Charlotte area. In addition to participating in the Kickoff Party, you can visit Legion from Nov. 14-28 and $1 of each pour of its Mystery Beer will benefit Supportive Housing Communities for #GivingTuesdayCLT.
